Quick MapleStory Facts:
- More than $2 million worth of in-game items were given between players this year
- More than 853,000 items were gifted between MapleStory players
With the season of giving upon us, Nexon America’s MapleStory players have shown they are generous year-round, as more than $2 million worth of in-game items were gifted between players so far this year.
This works when a player buys an item from MapleStory’s in-game store for hard dollars and gifts that item to another player in the game. Through November of this year, more than 853,000 of these types of transactions were recorded, showing that MapleStory players are some of the most generous and giving MMO gamers.
MapleStory is a colorful, 2-D action free-to-play MMORPG with millions of players worldwide. Nexon America’s MapleStory service includes U.S., Mexico, Canada and New Zealand and Australia.
Of the hundreds of thousands of gift transactions, the most popular item given was the “four-hour double EXP coupon,” which allows a player to level-up faster, followed by the “Platinum Scissors of Karma,” which allow players to trade untradeable items.
Players use NX, which is what dollars are called when used in Nexon games to purchase items in-game. NX can be obtained by the use of Karma Koin game cards (available in denominations of $5, $10 and $25 and can be found in more than 75,000 retail stores in all of Nexon America’s service regions.
Linda Tsoi, the community manager for Nexon America’s MapleStory, attributed the huge amount of giving to players wanting to give their in-game friends a helping hand. “A lot of gifting happens because Maplers consider their in-game friends real life friends, so oftentimes they may gift something because their friend doesn’t have NX because s/he can’t afford or has no means of buying it,” said Ms. Tsoi.
